Robert Showers, David Pohl, Terry Link, Gary Fritz, Jack Enderle, Eileen Heideman, Larry Martin and Paul McNamara
With over 90 people in attendance, the County Commissioners were presented with the Conservationists of the Year Award. In presenting the award, Gary Fritz, Executive Director of the Clinton Conservation District pointed out “that this is being presented in recognition for the continued support and guidance on conservation issues in Clinton County not only by the currently serving Commissioners but also past Commissioners”. Fritz mentioned that “my experience during my 1 year in the Conservation District and exposure to other Districts in Michigan has highlighted how fortunate we are to have such a dedicated group of people serving as Commissioners”. Fritz went on to site examples of Conservation District support for recent activities in raising awareness of the EAB (Emerald Ash Borer), restoration efforts at Muskrat Lake and Riverside Park, funding for Forestry services and various education efforts for animal waste management and waterway protection (filter strips). “Whenever there is seminar or activity to explore possibilities or solutions to protect and preserve our environment in the Tri-County area, you see our Commissioners present and involved”.
The evening also included a presentation on Fishing in mid-Michigan Streams and Rivers given by Jim Bedford, author and avid fishermen.
Also recognized for supporting the event and as “partners in conservation” were: ADM Grain, Al’s Aerial Spraying, Fishbeck, Carr, Huber, Inc, Foster Trenching, Greenstone Farm Credit Services, Maple Rapids Lumber Mill, Michigan Milk Producers Association, Pat Feldpaush Farms, Public Sector Consultants, Trinity Engineering, Wetlands and Coastal Resources, Woodland Bird Hunting Preserve and Zeeb, Co.
