In 1972 the Michigan Legislature gave authority to counties to facilitate a County-wide Animal Control Agency. The Department's main responsibility is to enforce the Dog Law Act, which includes;

  • licensing;
  • inspecting kennels;
  • investigating loose animals;
  • investigating animal bites and neglect;
  • handling of lost and found pets;
  • responding to complaint calls about animals running-at-large;
  • facilitating adoption;
  • conducting dog census;
  • maintaining the shelter.
