Welcome to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office Neighborhood Watch web page.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Office has been involved with the Neighborhood Watch Program since 1993. A Neighborhood Watch is designed to keep people involved in their neighborhoods, thus becoming the "eyes and ears" of the community. The hope is that by being involved and aware of your neighborhood, you will know when something is wrong.

From this page you can access: The Neighborhood Watch Newsletter and Alerts that include information on current problems or crime prevention information. You can also be send an e-mail message to the Clinton County Neighborhood Watch (see email link in bottom right of this page).

Hello Neighbors,
Neighbors come through again!  Our county (as have many others) has had home break-ins occurring all around.  Recently, one alert neighbor reported seeing a vehicle at the neighbors that they did not recognize, a white SUV type vehicle.  Through their efforts the vehicle and driver were later apprehended, and some of the stolen items have been recovered.  Please remember, there continues to be random break-ins being committed around the county.  So, if something doesn’t seem right do not hesitate to call 911. Also, never put yourself in harms way trying to get information, but if you can get a license plate number or any description of people and vehicle it is very helpful.

We have also been dealing with meth labs lately.  Our officers raided a couple of residences where meth was being produced.  In the production of meth a strong “chemical” odor is present and the whole process can be very dangerous.  Explosions and fire can occur during the process, which means that anyone near by could end up being affected.  These “cooks” produce toxic waste and noxious fumes which are very harmful. If you suspect something do not try to investigate on your own just call 911.

One of our officers recently handled a fraud complaint where someone was trying to rent out a home that they did not own or have any interest in.  The “landlord” said that they were in England so everything had to be handled via e-mail.  They were told to send a deposit and then they would be given the house keys.  The potential renter went to the residence and that is when they were told by the real home-owners that it was not for rent.  There are so many internet fraud schemes out there, be very careful.

We have also been receiving complaints of animals being dropped off out in the country when owners can no longer care for them.  Please contact animal control or the Humane Society.  This is not fair to the residence where the animals end up, or to the animals themselves that may not be able to fend for themselves.

Hard to believe that the “holiday” season is almost here, our time for giving is others “taking” time.    Be aware of what you are posting on social networks-vacation plans, major purchases, or simply times you will not be home.  Garbage days can be insightful to the criminal minds- they love large flat screen televisions!

As good neighbors, please remember any people in your neighborhood that might need assistance in various ways this winter season.

Stay safe,

Deputy Sharon Worthington
