Hello Neighbors,
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer.
We have had calls about a white male in a blue Honda Accord going door-to-door asking about kids in the home and neighborhood. He is selling books and has been checked out through law enforcement. If you are not interested just tell him to leave, as with all of the sales people going around.
Wacousta Elementary School had graffiti painted on the building. The things written would indicate it is not just kids messing around. Anyone that has any information is asked to contact our office.
There have been random acts of vandalism and thefts around the county. We have had mailboxes, yard lights, and ornaments destroyed. We have also had various yard ornaments and lights (solar) taken. If you have items that are not yours please contact our office. Likewise, if you have had damage or items taken, we would like it reported to 911. That way items can be matched with owners, and/or if we find out who was involved they can make restitution.
Please be aware of all the bicyclists around the county. According to the motor vehicle code; a “person operating a bicycle, electric personal assistive mobility device, low-speed vehicle or moped upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practical.” This does not apply to motorcycles, they are entitled to the full lane of traffic. Also they “shall not ride more than 2 abreast”; each person riding or operating one of these vehicles upon a roadway “has all of the rights and is subject to all of the duties applicable to a driver of a vehicle”. If your driving privileges are suspended revoked/denied you may not drive a moped. Remember, that unless designed for 2 people, there should only be one person on the device. Finally, if you are riding on the roadway you must follow all the rules of the road. A group of riders does not equal one unit- if there is a stop sign, all must stop not just the first one or two. Our office strongly encourages the use of helmets for all riders.
Stay safe,
Deputy Sharon Worthington
