Central
Dispatch links the citizens of Clinton
County, neighboring communities, and associated public safety
agencies with efficient, reliable, responsive, and professional
public safety communication services. The primary function of
Central Dispatch is to handle emergency and non-emergency requests
for police, fire, and medical service and to determine the dispatch
needed and to dispatch the appropriate personnel to the requested
location.
On
August 2, 2005, the voters of Clinton County approved the renewal
of operating surcharge, beginning December 31, 2006, and continuing
until December 31, 2011, on land line telephones in Clinton County
to support Clinton County Central Dispatch. The Clinton County
Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 2005-35 – 911 Services
Monthly Land Line Telephone Surcharge Rate on November 29,
2005, resulting in a landline phone surcharge rate of $4.00 per
line, per month.
Michigan
legislation passed in December 2007 will change the surcharge
in Clinton County from $4.00 per landline phone to $2.00 per any
device capable of dialing 9-1-1, starting July 1, 2008. The Clinton
County Board of Commissioners passed Resolution 2008-2 -
Resolution to Adopt Monthly 911 Surcharge Within Clinton County
authorizing this change.
Kindergarten
9-1-1 education programs continue to be a huge success. In addition
to teaching children how and when to dial 9-1-1, Central Dispatch
provides the students with a reminder of their training in the
form of a 9-1-1 activity book and a practice phone to practice
calling 9-1-1.
Tours
of Central Dispatch's 9-1-1 Operations Center are provided to
numerous civic groups, scouts, students, and individuals of
Clinton County.
